MFU Writers' Bible

Originally posted by carabele at MFU Writers' Bible
This project, started as part of the 50th Anniversary of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. original series, is finally complete. The idea originating with Linda Cornett, the Bible was the work of many authors and is, of course, in no way comprehensive. But it does provide all in one place a lot of helpful reference material for MFU fanfic writers.

It's in PDF format, so accessible no matter your machine type. However, it is of course large in filesize (about 5 MB), so getting it archived anywhere is a bit tricky. The original intent was to post it to MFU Archive, but as it turns out it's too large to use the standard user upload engine for that. So I have a request in to Lisa regarding providing her the file directly to input on that site.

In the meanwhile I have made the Bible accessible from my own website, though you will need to follow these instructions to get it.

1) Right-click (not double-click) on the following link: MFU Writers Bible
2) Select "save target as..."
3) Choose the local directory on your computer where you want the file saved
4) Click the SAVE button

Once the file is downloaded, you will be able to access it from the saved copy on your machine.

The Tales of Section VII Can Be Found Here

Here on Section VII we have had a blast writing MFU fiction, from drabbles to weighty subject laden stories from our various challenges and writing events.  If you haven't checked out the plethora (it's nice to use big words like that ;) of stories that have accumulated over the past two and half years then here you go.  The Archives are a good way of going back in time but to save you the effort I've included the tags so that you can pick and choose or simply start at the top.  It's a good collection from a variety of writers whose efforts here are so greatly appreciated. Sometimes you see a few names more often than others, but the surprises are there too with veteran writers like
nsandik and
Rose Burkett (roselight on ff.net).  Our readers are part of our inspiration, and I hope you know how important it is when we find out you've enjoyed one of these offerings.
Okay, it's in your hands now.  Carry on.

Remembering Noel Harrison...

Here on section7mfu we've had a lot of stories that included Mark Slate and April Dancer.  I think we all genuinely enjoy these characters, and from what I've read there is a particular fondness for the happy Brit who was partnered with the Girl from UNCLE.
Tomorrow is drabble day, and I'm thinking we might want to focus on Mark as a sort of memorial nod to Noel Harrison.  I hope we'll have a nice turn out for a someone who is imbedded into the lore of MFU just as surely as the other two men.
Let's put a hint of Brit into our drabbles on Wednesday.

Sort of technical writing question

I am currently working on my piece for QuoteME: Challenge 5 on Section VII.

Carla Drosten, the head of Section VI (Security and Personnel), who was utilized in the MFU series episode THE WAVERLY RING AFFAIR, is featured in the story. I am putting in a footnote in my story stating the character was introduced in that episode of the series.

Some background for my particular question:
In my story Carla is responsible for my antagonist in the tale being assigned to Napoleon as a temporary assistant. I don't want to spoil the story by giving away too much, but the gist is that under normal conditions this particular employee would not have been assigned to such a position. Now Carla does have a perfectly reasonable personal justification for doing what she does (nothing to do with any possible Thrush connection). However, in THE WAVERLY RING AFFAIR it is ultimately revealed that Carla is connected with Thrush.

My story though takes place in 1963, a few years before the timeline of THE WAVERLY RING AFFAIR. And it did appear in that episode that Carla was vey much a trusted employee of U.N.C.L.E. and had been for some years. So whether her connection with Thrush was of long standing or not is up-in-the-air.

So my actual question:
Do I need to footnote that Carla in THE WAVERLY RING AFFAIR was revealed to have a connection with Thrush? Or leave it completely up to the reader to recall that she did and decide whether 1) what she does in my story has that ulterior motive? or 2) what she does has no motivation other than that she actually states to Illya in the story?

My gut reaction is not to do that footnote, but I did want to get a few opinions.
